Alone (pandemia)

Alternating between the stock market ticker

that I only monitor hoping for the scumbag’s demise

and editing my book that I both love and despise

I look out the window to see my neighbor wearing a t shirt that simply says “alone”

a chord resonates deep inside and momentarily I share that loneliness

it isn’t until he turns in my direction to let his dog pee that I see

the shirt says “aloha”

the mind plays tricks 6 months in

people are heroic

people suck

my contempt grows

alternately buoyed by kindness

“alone”
